SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Linux Foundation, home to Tazama, a pioneering open-source initiative focused on real-time fraud monitoring and secure digital financial ecosystems, is proud to formally announce an expanded partnership with Sybrin, a leading software solutions provider and one of the original development partners of the Tazama platform.
This announcement marks a significant milestone in a collaboration that has been more than three years in the making. Since Tazama’s inception, Sybrin has played a foundational role in helping to architect, develop, and deploy the system’s core capabilities alongside the open-source community. Together, the two organizations have remained committed to building technologies that foster trust, protect vulnerable users, and increase access to safe digital financial services across the Global South.
“Sybrin’s early belief in and support of Tazama has been instrumental in our success,” said Greg McCormick, Executive Director of Tazama at The Linux Foundation. “They’ve been more than a partner—they’ve been a co-architect of Tazama in this journey toward meaningful financial inclusion.”
The expanded partnership will deepen Sybrin’s involvement in development, technical leadership, and community outreach, while also promoting wider adoption of Tazama’s fraud monitoring platform by banks, fintechs, regulators, and mobile money operators across the African continent.
“We’re thrilled to see our longstanding collaboration with Tazama.org formalized through this new phase,” said Roland Van Hee, Group CTO of Sybrin. “This project aligns perfectly with our values and our commitment to democratizing access to financial tools, especially in underserved communities. Together with Tazama, we’re building infrastructure that empowers financial institutions to protect consumers and grow safely.”
Sybrin’s involvement has not only contributed to the technical evolution of the platform but has also helped shape policy dialogues around digital trust, fraud mitigation, and responsible data practices in several regional markets.
As part of the Linux Foundation’s ecosystem, Tazama.org continues to attract like-minded public and private sector collaborators that share the goal of advancing digital public goods and unlocking the potential of inclusive finance. Tazama is funded by The Gates Foundation and part of the Inclusive Instant Payment Systems project Level One.
